From Grade 9 to the Big East: Javion Tyndale Commits to Seton Hall

Javion Tyndale is headed to Seton Hall.

The Montverde Academy point guard chose Shaheen Holloway and the Pirates over West Virginia, UNLV, Loyola Chicago, Providence and St. Bonaventure. Five leaf. Class of 2027. Mississauga kid. I've been waiting a long time to write that sentence.

I've been on Javion since Grade 9. If I said he was undersized back then I’d be doing the term a disservice. But one thing that stood out was how well he processed the game, 2-3 plays ahead at the time.

December 2023, TMM put it in writing with Javion Tyndale: A Coach's Dream, after he dropped 44 in what we called the most competitive high school league in the country. The knock then is the knock now: he's small. Fine. Go ask the defenders how that worked out.

Here's what I keep coming back to: nobody handed him this. Last season at Montverde he wasn't supposed to be the guy running the show. Injuries changed that. "I wasn't really expected to be the guy who controlled the ship," he told Zagsblog. Then he controlled it, with multiple games of double-digit assists.

Then came this summer. Canada won its first-ever FIBA U18 AmeriCup gold, beat the United States in the final, and Javion walked out as tournament MVP: 12.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists a game, plus 19 points, eight assists and three steals in the title game. He's said schools started calling in bunches after that gold.
