Player Spotlight: Devan Jagpal, Douglas Royals
By Clive Adams
Douglas Royals | Guard | 6'3 | Surrey, BC
High School: Southridge Secondary
Club: Canada Topflight Academy (CTA)
After redshirting at UFV, Devan Jagpal transferred to the Douglas Royals for 2026/27, and this is his first year actually suiting up at the college level. If his debut is any indication, the wait was worth it.
Off the bench in his first game, he dropped 29 points on 11-17 shooting, including 4-7 from 3, leading the Royals past a stacked Capilano Blues squad. Not bad for his first meaningful college minutes.
He's taken the league by storm. The question now is whether he can stay consistent, but I know he'll keep turning heads in the PACWEST.
What he brings:
Shot creator off the dribble: midrange, floaters, layups
Reliable catch-and-shoot threat from 3
Attacks and gets to the rim
Deep bag of moves to get defenders off their feet
Thrives in set plays run for him
HIGH ENERGY player who changes a game's tempo
Where he needs to grow:
Defense. He can get beat off the dribble and foul to compensate. Staying in front without reaching will keep him on the floor and make him a two-way player.
Shot selection. As a high-volume shooter, the real test is his off nights: finding teammates, getting to the line, and picking his spots.
Controlling the pace. His energy is his biggest strength, but it can take him out of control. Knowing when to push and when to slow down separates good scorers from great guards.
The bigger picture:
A redshirt year teaches you a lot, but nothing replaces real game minutes. The PACWEST is a proving ground, and if Devan sharpens these areas this season, he'll have everything he needs to make the jump to U SPORTS. The talent is there. Now it's about putting it together.
