(2027) Jaiden Buttar 6'0: A Relentless 3-Level Scorer
By Imran Brar
Jaiden Buttar (šššš) is a point guard from MEI in Abbotsford, BC. He is a fearless competitor who lives in the lane, makes a high impact on both ends of the floor, and plays with a motor that never turns off.
Buttar is a three-level scorer who is fearless at the rim and hungry to pick up full court. An explosive attacker who plays primarily off ball screens, he uses a quick change of pace to attack the defensive coverage and explode in up for a strong finish. He is especially impressive off one foot in the paint, where he can adjust the tempo and create quick finishes and floaters against shot blockers.
His biggest strengths are his athleticism and speed. Electric in the fast break, he goes 0-100 in seconds and leaves the defense behind for easy finishes. Just as important, he controls that speed, attacking the defense at full speed while making great decisions in transition.
That athleticism makes him a two-way monster. Buttar's strength and foot speed let him pressure ball handlers all over the floor, and he can pick up 94 feet consistently when needed. He keeps up in the full court, creates contact, and recovers in the half court to get a steal or a stop. He can make a good play on offense and then flip straight into hard-nosed, high-pressure defense, an edge that can't be taught.
Buttar has developed into an extremely consistent shooter who hits a high percentage from 3-point range. Off a ball screen, he's great at getting into his 3-point shot off the dribble, and he can go full speed into a pull-up, stopping on a dime to rise up. He's just as good off the catch, shooting quickly and making his reads within a half-second. I really like that every time he catches the ball, he uses a jab or pump fake to throw his defender off and create scoring opportunities.
He's just as intriguing as a creator. He finds creative ways to get open off the ball, gets paint touches for open kickouts, and makes smart decisions to set up his offense. He exploits poor defensive communication off ball screens and handoffs, making advanced reads that not many guards use. He's confident bringing the ball up the floor, handles pressure well, and stays patient. He rarely looks rushed, and he can slow the tempo or speed it up to create quality possessions in the half court.
Buttar brings an uncommon mix of speed, shooting, and feel to the point guard position. He scores at all three levels, pressures the ball for 94 feet, and plays with a motor that never dips. His ability to change pace, read coverages off ball screens, and make quick decisions on the catch shows a guard who thinks the game as well as he plays it. As a 2027 prospect who impacts winning at both ends, Buttar is a name to track closely as his class develops.
