If you are a basketball fan in Canada, you won't want to miss the Western Canada Prep Showcase, a three-day event that will feature some of the best prep programs in Canada and the US. The showcase, hosted by Western Canada Prep Academy (WCPA), will take place from September 29 to October 1 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
The event will consist of eight teams, each playing multiple games over the course of the showcase. The teams are:
- Dynastie Prep from Quebec, a powerhouse program that has produced several NCAA and U Sports players, including most recently Anthony Maxwell who now plays for the UMass Lowell.
- Canada Top Flight Academy West from Calgary, a branch of the Ottawa-based academy CTA. CTA West and Coach Adam Huffman have produced a multitude of NCAA & U Sports players including one of my top ranked prospects last season Jacob Antchak who now plays at Green Bay.
- Prolific Sports Academy from Calgary, a rising program that is coached by former D1 player with Marquette and High Point, Dave Singleton.
- Edge School from Alberta, a well-established program that has been a prominent force in Canadian basketball under Eddie Richardson for some time and has developed players for U Sports, NCAA, and professional leagues.
- Supreme Hoops from Alberta, a program that aims to provide high-level exposure and development for players in the Calgary area and beyond.
- Fraser Valley Mountaineers Prep from British Columbia, that is affiliated with UFV Mountaineers and offers programing for HS age and Post Grad students, as well as basketball skills and performance.
- WCPA, the host team from Edmonton, a premier program run by Sunny Sooch, that offers athletes years of athletic and academic development prior to heading into post-secondary. WCPA will play a very distinguished schedule, including local and international games in the US .
- Wasatch Academy from Utah, USA, one of the top programs in the United States and the world. Wasatch Academy competes in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference (NIBC) and in regional and national tournaments. Wasatch Academy has produced many Division I players, including Anthony Wrzeszcz, who is now playing for Sam Houston State University.
The showcase will be a great opportunity for fans, coaches, scouts, and media to see some of the best talent in North America. The level of competition will be high, as each team will try to prove themselves against quality opponents. The showcase will also be a chance for players to showcase their skills, improve their game, and network with other athletes and coaches.
I will be providing coverage of this event, flying in from Toronto to Edmonton. I am excited to witness this prestigious event and share my insights and analysis with you. There hasn't been this level of talent in Alberta, maybe ever. You can follow me on my website, where I will post this article and more updates on the showcase.
