(Written by QChoopslover)
INTRO
With the CEGEP season approaching, the Start of the Season Showcase offered an early look at many of Québec's top returning prospects and experienced recruits. Featuring a mix of established veterans, incoming impact players, and under-the-radar names, the event served as a valuable measuring stick before the regular season begins. These are the players who stood out most and look poised to make an impact at the CEGEP level this year.
Benjamin Bravo | Champlain | 6'5 | 2027 | Guard
Benjamin Bravo looked like one of the most complete offensive players in the building. The Champlain guard scored at all three levels, knocked down difficult jumpers both on and off the dribble, and mixed in explosive athletic finishes, including a powerful dunk that highlighted his bounce. Despite a relatively thin frame, he consistently played through contact and showed he could make the right reads and simple kickouts once he got inside the paint. With his combination of shot-making, athleticism, and scoring versatility, Bravo enters the season as one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the province.
Nick Masengo | St-Foy | 6'6 | 2027 | Wing
Nick Masengo's impact went far beyond the scoring column. The veteran wing was constantly communicating, setting the tone with his energy, and embracing the physical side of the game on both ends. Offensively, he generated points by running the floor, cutting hard, attacking closeouts, finishing through contact for multiple and-one opportunities . While his long frame could still benefit from added strength, what separated him from many others at the showcase was his ability to elevate his play late, knocking down difficult off-the-dribble threes that helped keep St-Foy within striking distance. His leadership and two-way presence should make him a valuable piece all season.
Jérémie Gibon | Thetford | 6'1 | 2027 | Point Guard
His ability to create separation off the dribble repeatedly forced defenses to make difficult decisions, whether in pick-and-roll situations or isolation sets. Defenders who went under screens were punished by his shooting range, while aggressive defenders often found themselves beaten off the bounce. Although he remains most comfortable with the ball in his hands and can continue developing his off-ball impact, his ability to create advantages for both himself and his teammates already operates at a high level. Between his shot making, playmaking, and overall offensive command, Gibon looked every bit like a player capable of carrying a heavy offensive workload this season.
Wesle Parlo Fils | Vanier | 6'0 | 2028 | Point Guard
It's easy to forget Wesle Parlo Fils is one of the younger players in this group. The Vanier guard played with remarkable confidence and poise throughout the showcase, creating offense through advanced footwork, pace changes, and creative shot-making. Defensively, he picked up full court and brought a level of competitiveness that consistently disrupted opposing guards. While his scoring creativity already stands out, the next evolution of his game will be using that same creativity to create more easy opportunities for teammates. Even so, his efficiency, confidence, and ability to make tough shots suggest he will be one of the more intriguing young guards to follow throughout the season.
Mathis Beauchamp | Montmorency | 6'6 | 2027 | Wing
Mathis Beauchamp a complete all-around performances of the showcase. His production showed up everywhere, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals while impacting the game on both ends. He consistently crashed the glass, created extra possessions, knocked down perimeter shots, and used his size well around the basket. Players who can contribute in so many different areas are invaluable, and Beauchamp continues to prove he fits that description.
Drissa Toure | Sherbrooke | 6'5 | 2027 | Wing
Few players displayed the same level of versatility as Drissa Toure. Throughout the showcase he scored as a roller, cutter, driver, perimeter shooter, and even created his own offense off the dribble. What stood out most was how naturally he moved between roles, looking comfortable whether operating near the rim or beyond the arc. There is still room for him to continue developing as a primary creator against set defenses, but the flashes already suggest significant upside. Combined with his defensive versatility and ability to impact multiple areas of the game, Toure looked like one of the most intriguing player in attendance.
Julius Ferguson | Brébeuf | 6'6 | 2027 | Wing
Julius Ferguson continues to establish himself as one of the better shooters in the province. His mechanics are clean, repeatable, and incredibly quick, allowing him to consistently get quality looks without needing much space. Beyond the perimeter shooting, he showed encouraging flashes attacking closeouts, rebounding at a high level, and even operating in ball-screen situations. There are still moments where additional strength and an even tighter ball handling would help him finish more effectively in traffic, but the combination of shooting touch, athleticism, and size already makes him an extremely valuable player. If the self-creation continues to develop, his offensive ceiling rises considerably.
Ethan More | Dawson | 6'3 | 2027 | Guard
Ethan More repeatedly punished defenses through intelligent movement and relentless rim pressure. He's a solid straight line athlete, but what makes him effective is his understanding of spacing, timing, and angles. He consistently found gaps to attack, got downhill in transition, and generated efficient offense by simply running harder than everyone else. Continued growth as a perimeter shooter would make him even tougher to contain because defenders would no longer be able to prioritize taking away his drives. Regardless, his ability to get paint touches and finish efficiently should translate immediately into the upcoming season.
Jason Bundalian | Dawson | 6'1 | 2027 | Point Guard
Few players embraced big moments the way Jason Bundalian did. The Dawson guard showed a deep shot-making bag throughout the showcase, mixing pull-up jumpers, aggressive drives, and difficult off-the-dribble threes. His confidence never wavered regardless of the situation, and he consistently wanted the ball when the game was on the line. Players who can generate offense late in games are hard to find, and Bundalian repeatedly demonstrated that capability.
Jean-Thomas Grodin | Édouard-Montpetit | 6'8 | 2027 | Wing
Jean-Thomas Grodin offers a combination that immediately attracts attention: size and shooting. The 6'8 wing consistently stretched the floor from the perimeter while also contributing defensively with rim protection and positional versatility. Opposing defenses often sent extra attention his way, and he showed encouraging willingness as a passer when help arrived. Improving his mobility will help him become even more effective defensively, particularly against smaller, quicker players, but the foundation of size, shooting, and feel is already evident. Players with that profile don't come around often.
Etienne Beaumont | Outaouais | 6'3 | 2027 | Guard
Etienne Beaumont played with the confidence of a true shot maker. Whether spotting up or pulling up off the dribble, he never hesitated to let it fly and consistently put pressure on defenders with his shooting range. His reputation as a shooter also opened driving opportunities that he attacked effectively throughout the showcase. At times he struggled when forced into crowded midrange situations. But His ability to score from deep remains his biggest weapon and should continue to make him dangerous
Raphaël Amuri | Ahuntsic | 6'5 | 2027 | Wing
Raphaël Amuri was one of the most explosive athletes at the event. He consistently ran the floor, attacked the rim with force, and produced several highlight-reel finishes that energized the gym. His ability to grab rebounds and immediately push the pace also stood out. While tightening his handle on change of directions would help him create more effectively against pressure in the halfcourt, his straight-line speed, vertical athleticism, and physical tools already make him difficult to contain. Few players could match his ability to generate easy points in transition and on drives.
Antonny Peraza Blais | Vanier | 6'1 | 2028 | Guard
Antonny Peraza Blais was one of the more impactful two-way guards at the showcase . What stood out was his defensive presence. He picked up full court, consistently found himself in the right spots, and brought a level of communication that helped organize everyone around him. Offensively, he looked noticeably improved from last season, playing with greater confidence as a shooter while also showing flashes of self-creation and comfort operating from all three levels. At times he still looked slightly out of control when attacking the rim, leaving a few finishing opportunities on the table, but the decision-making, activity level, and overall feel for the game consistently shined through. Players who combine defensive intensity, intelligence, and a constantly improving offensive package tend to earn bigger roles, and Antonny looks poised to take another step this season.
