Sarim Khan: Underrated 2027 Guard, Overdue for Some Attention

The 6'2 St. Jude's Academy guard pairs a quick first step with two-handed finishing and defensive pressure that sets the tone.

Sarim Khan šŸšŸšŸ (2027), 6'2 guard, Milton, ON.

Khan is a 6'2 athletic guard whose quick first step puts defenders on their heels the moment he catches the ball. His best skill is getting to the rim and finishing, and he can finish with either hand, which makes him hard to load up against on drives. Defensively, he pressures the ball and shows good positioning off the ball. The next step is the 3-pointer: if he becomes a consistent shooter, especially from the corner, defences will have to close out hard, and that opens the baseline for him to finish or make plays for others. Adding strength would also help him absorb contact at the rim. He's one of the more underrated guards in the 2027 class.

Prospect Snapshot: šŸšŸšŸ NCAA D3

Class: 2027 | Position: Guard | Height: 6'2

School: St. Jude's Academy | Hometown: Milton, ON

Built on the First Step

Khan's game starts with his burst. He gets past his man off the catch or the bounce and gets downhill quickly, and once he's in the paint, he finishes comfortably with either hand on either side of the rim. He's an athletic finisher who can play through the defence and around length, and that two-handed finishing makes him tough to force one way.

He's also a willing defender. He picks up the ball and stays in front of it, and away from the ball, he's in the right spots. That effort on both ends makes him a player coaches can trust on the floor.

Where He Needs to Grow

The jumper is his biggest swing skill. Khan has shown he can make shots, but turning the 3 into a consistent part of his game would change how teams guard him. The corner 3 is the place to start: if defenders have to respect it, he can attack hard closeouts and get downhill along the baseline, where he can finish or find teammates.

Adding strength is the other piece. More muscle would help him finish through contact and hold up against physical guards at the next level.

Projected Scheme Fit

Offence

Khan fits best in a 5-out motion offence, where open driving lanes let his first step do the work. He attacks well off dribble handoffs, turning the handoff into a downhill drive before the defence can recover. Pin-down actions also suit him: coming off a pin-down or curling it toward the middle puts him on the move with his defender trailing, which is exactly where his burst and two-handed finishing are hardest to stop. He's been most effective in the half court, but he's comfortable in an up-tempo game as well.

Defence

His on-ball pressure fits well in an aggressive, pressure-based scheme, and his off-ball positioning makes him useful in help defence.

Tier: šŸšŸšŸ (NCAA D3)

Khan's first step, two-handed finishing and defensive pressure already make him a legitimate post-secondary prospect, and a consistent 3-point shot, with a tad bit more playmaking qualities, could push him into the šŸšŸšŸšŸ range.
